The Orion V (or Orion 05.501) was first delivered by Orion Bus Industries and put into operation by the HSR in 1989. A total of fifteen coaches were ordered. Two years later, another fifteen were ordered, followed by fifteen more in 1992.
These coaches are the final 'high floor' buses ordered by the HSR. The coaches ordered in 1989 were diesel fueled, while subsequent coaches in 1991 and 1992 were powered by "CNG" clean natural gas.
This series of bus was also the first in the HSR to have a digital route sign installed. Coaches ordered in 1992 came with a new digital display on the front route sign and the side destination sign.
