5 DELAWARE
|
Route 5 Delaware is the longest route in the HSR, travelling a total of 44.42km from loop to loop. The farthest west point in this length is at the Meadowlands Terminal in Ancaster (5C) and the farthest east point (5) is at Jones & King.
Route 52 Main West - Dundas is an extension of this route, as the reverse direction of 'Route 5 Delaware' and returns from Jones & King in Stoney Creek.
'Route 5 Delaware' headed east returns as 'Route 5B Main West' OR 'Route 52 Dundas'
The eastbound trip travels to Jones & King via Delaware. The westbound trip runs as a '5B' goes to University Plaza in Dundas via Delaware. The thing that makes this destination confusing is that no '5B' runs during on weekends, and that on weekdays the '5B' only runs during the early morning, between 10am-2pm and again 7pm-10pm. During the other times the '5' returns westbound as a '52' instead traveling usually to Pirie & Governors but also to Head Street Loop once or twice. Luckily the '52' passes the loop point of the '5B' so it's not all that bad. Got all that?
East - Route 5 Delaware - to Jones & King - via Delaware
West - Route 5B West Hamilton - to University Plaza - via Delaware (no Sunday service/limited weekday and Saturday service)
West - Route 52 Dundas - to Pirie & Governors - via King St E
West - Route 52 Dundas - to Head Street Loop - via Delaware
'Route 5A Delaware' headed east returns as 'Route 5C West Hamilton'
Again the eastbound trip is pretty simple. The '5A' travels to 'Greenhill & Cochrane' (old analogue destination signs used to give this route the added name 'Rosedale' as the bus turns on Rosedale Ave). The westbound trip is what gets complicated. The '5C' has two different final destinations alternating between the West Hamilton Loop and Meadowlands. Luckily both trips travel via Delaware, however what adds to the complication is that there is no service to Meadowlands on weekends so there is only one destination on Saturday and Sunday.
East - Route 5A Delaware - to Greenhill & Cochrane - via Delaware
*note* the last run of the night at 12:40am leaving Meadowlands runs to both the '5A' and '5E' loops.
West - Route 5C West Hamilton - to West Hamilton Loop - via Delaware
West - Route 5C West Hamilton - to Meadowlands - via Delaware (weekdays only)
'Route 5E Delaware' headed east returns as 'Route 52 Dundas'
Finally the eastbound trip is the easiest. The '5E' travels to Quigley & Greenhill (old analogue destination signs used to give this route the added name 'Greenhill' as the bus turns on Greenhill Ave). The confusing part about this is that westbound trips of '52' have two different final destinations in Dundas. The bus alternates between Pirie & Governors or to Head Street Loop. What makes it even more confusing is that if the '52' is going to Pirie & Governors it will travel the route via Delaware, but if the bus is going to the Head Street Loop it travels along King St E to downtown (except for a few that do take Delaware). Luckily the destination sign usually displays this, but can be a bit confusing.
East - Route 5E Delaware - to Quigley & Greenhill - via Delaware
West - Route 52 Dundas - to Pirie & Governors - via King St E
West - Route 52 Dundas - to Head Street Loop - via King St E
West - Route 52 Dundas - to Head Street Loop - via Delaware
West - Route 5B West Hamilton - to University Plaza - via King St E (one run in the latenight at 12:48am weekdays only)
